Whitby Swing Bridge, which is over 100 years old, was opened in July 1909. The bridge joins the East and West sides of town and is opened on the hour and half past the hour (at high tides) to let boats and ships pass.

The Whitby Swing Bridge webcam is no longer operational. We apologise for any disappointement this may cause our regular visitors. Should we be able to negotiate a new site for the webcam it may be re-instated in future. In the mean time, the site remains online to provide information and background to this wonderful piece of engineering.
